The Dutch Baroque artist Johannes Vermeer (1632 - 1675) is best known for his painting, "Girl With A Pearl Earring". Vermeer lived in the city of Delft, and is praised for using light and color to bring striking beauty to interior scenes of domestic, ordinary lives. Not much is known about Vermeer's life. In fact, his works were all but forgotten for nearly one hundred years until 1866 when art critic Thore Burger published an essay that mentioned many of Vermeer's works. Today, Vermeer is regarded as one of the Dutch Golden Age's greatest painters. Much information about Vermeer can be found on the internet.
