Paper is one of the most important inventions that mankind has ever created. It has allowed the printing of currency, the writing of books and of Constitutions, and of course many love letters.
A tribute to this important element in our lives can be found at the Robert C.
Williams
Museum of Papermaking. This amazing museum features thousands of original books, tools, and manuscripts.
The museum is
located on the Georgia Tech campus in Atlanta, Georgia. Recently, the museum received a grant that has allowed it to expand significantly, including rotating exhibits and in depth paper mosaics, pop ups, stationary, designs, and other works involving paper. There is also an extensive
gift shop that has hundreds of paper related items including hand made paper stationary, journals, and much more.
The Robert C. Williams Museum of Papermaking has the most impressive collection of paper related items in the world. Items range from the time of 4,000 B.C. onward. The museum traces the history of paper and how it has evolved, as well as how it has shaped our modern world.
There are also workshops designed for both students and teachers to learn more about paper. A narrated
audio tour is available for people who would like to experience the museum with the help of a guide.
The museum exhibits papyrus, clay tablets, bark, leaf books, rice paper, and many
other mediums that were originally used for documentation before wood pulp paper became the staple. There are also features on the invention of paper, the papermaking process, tools used to make paper, and a feature exhibit about famed European printer and papermaker
Dard Hunter.
