Universal-Waste-Regulations [<< Back]

Universal waste is a very generic term identifying waste that is generated from a very large group of people. This includes households and businesses. UWR hopes to promote recycling and the correct way to dispose of wastes.

Different types of Universal waste are: Unused pesticides, mercury containing thermostats, and spent batteries. Universal waste requirements for handlers are that they must use a CESQG, Conditionally Exempt Small Quantity Generator. One needs to make sure that it is delivered to a properly permitted facility.

For each type of Universal waste they will need to be properly labeled and packaged. If batteries are being packaged and labeled then they will need to be marked as ‘Universal waste batteries'. This is the same if one is packaging pesticides or thermostats. If regulations are not followed properly businesses or home owners can receive fines.
